Keds were the original "shoes" - a name adopted by the flexible rubber soles that allowed him to "sneak" behind someone without them account. The brand originated in 1916 and was produced by a company called U.S. Rubber (now known as Uniroyal). Originally the company had wanted to call the shoes "Peds," the Latin term for the feet.
